Best Patterns for You

Do you love patterns like we do?!

Don't get me wrong - I love basics and building my wardrobe with them. But I also love how a patterned item changes things up and adds some sunshine and flair to my closet!

We know that finding patterns that complement your palette can feel tricky, so we wanted to help you out! We linked gorgeous patterned items from different retailers for each of our 12 palettes. Now, you'll be able to find a variety of fun pieces all in one post!

We also asked Tori, our CMO and Biz Dev Officer, for some tips on how to figure out if a pattern is cohesive with your palette. Here are some great tips that she put together:

Patterns can be a bit intimidating, but they give us an opportunity to play around with our style! Each season will have specific qualities to their “perfect” pattern, but here are some tips that can steer us all in the right direction!
— Tori

Tip #1: In your dream pattern, the MAJORITY of the colors would be from your season. But you can often rock a pattern well if the dominant/background color is in one of your colors; this has the most impact. If you can’t find a pattern using ONLY your colors, shades from a sister season can be good alternatives too!

The above tip is probably the most important one. But if you’d like to narrow down your search further, you can also follow the additional tips below:

Tip #2: Match the CONTRAST of the pattern to the contrast of your features!

  • HIGH-CONTRAST patterns look best on those with bolder, dramatic features, like Winters, Deep Autumns, Clear Springs, and Warm Springs. You can make out a High Contrast pattern from across the room!

  • MEDIUM-CONTRAST patterns often use colors of similar depths or families, without bold outlines. These work best on those with some contrast, like Warm Autumns, Light Springs, or Cool Summers.

  • LOW-CONTRAST prints look great on those with romantic features and opaque skin tone, like Soft Summers, Soft Autumns, and Light Summers. These often work as whole-room wallpaper, because they are more subtle, and do not overwhelm their surroundings.

Tip #3: Lean into the THEMES of your colors when looking for prints.

  • Pairing nature inspired patterns with earthy colors will complete an Autumn look perfectly!

  • Geometric patterns and bold outlines feel incredibly cohesive in Winter jewel tones!

  • Feminine florals or delicate pinstripes are phenomenal on Summers!

  • Playful florals and organic shapes nod perfectly to Spring’s bright and cheery colors!

At the end of the day, if a pattern sparks joy when you wear it, hear us say “GO FOR IT!”

Please don’t let this guidance limit you from wearing something you love, but rather, think of it as a tool if you feel stumped or don’t know where to start.

We hope these tips are helpful! Browse our top picks for each color palette below. It flows from Spring (Clear Spring, Warm Spring, Light Spring), to Summer (Soft Summer, Light Summer, Cool Summer) , to Autumn (Soft Autumn, Warm Autumn, Deep Autumn) , to Winter (Clear Winter, Cool Winter, Deep Winter).
